Are you Open Minded?

April 27th, 2009

“What we see depends mainly on what we look for.”

How true this is so many times. Be open minded. Don’t be driven in a direction predetermined by your own biases or blurred vision.

Look for nothing when beginning your next quest. You might be surprised what you uncover.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for

Do you have a chillin spot?

March 25th, 2009

Do you have a place at or near your office where you can chill? No? Well, you should.

This is my chillin’ spot. It’s a table in the far side of my office where I can get away from the tasks of the day and read, surf the Internet or just drink my coffee and look out the window.

We all need a quick get away place. Find it today and spend at least 10 minutes there each work day. Your mind will thank you.

Clapton / Winwood Tour

February 15th, 2009

EC tour press release from whereseric.com -

Updated 12 February 2009 with onsale information for all cities. Original press release issued on 11 February 2009.

On Heels of Three Exclusive Shows at MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, Duo Announce A Special 14-City U.S. Tour This Spring

After their historic three-nights at Madison Square Garden, Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood announced today an exclusive 14 city U.S. tour beginning June 10, 2009.

After a stunning collaboration at the Chicago Crossroads Guitar Festival in July of 2007 and much speculation, Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton announced three eagerly anticipated concerts at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Those shows featured the artists performing together in a varied set list with Blind Faith classics and solo hits from each artist. Critics acclaimed the shows as historic and some of the best Clapton Winwood work ever. The tour promises more of the same collaborative musicianship that made these men legendary award-winning artists.

Both Winwood and Clapton have long and prestigious musical careers with countless honors and awards to their names. Their musical paths connected in 1969 with the formation of Blind Faith, a group that pioneered the fusion of rock and blues into tremendous studio and stage success. Despite critical and popular acclaim, the band was short-lived with only one album and a brief 1969 tour that debuted July 12 at Madison Square Garden and ended August 24th in Hawaii. Since that final show, Winwood and Clapton have remained friends, but have only performed together a few times over the years for an occasional song at a charity event. The 2008 Madison Square Garden shows were the first full Winwood-Clapton concerts in 40 years. Additionally, 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of Blind Faith and 40 years since they performed to over 100,000 people in Hyde Park, London.

Steve Winwood is currently signed to Columbia Records and released an album of new music, NINE LIVES in 2008. Eric Clapton’s compilation album Complete Clapton was released in 2008 on Reprise Records. The duo’s captivating performance at the 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago can be seen as part of a 2-disc DVD available now from Rhino Entertainment. A forthcoming 2-disc DVD/CD of the duo’s Madison Square Garden shows will be released this Spring.

You know you are living in 2009 when . . .

February 12th, 2009

1. You accidentally enter your PIN on the microwave.
2. You havent played solitaire with real cards in years. < — my mother
3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.
4. You email the person who works at the desk next to you.
5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they dont have email addresses or a Facebook profile.
6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries. < — Nicole!
7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.
8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didnt even have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.
10. You get up in the morning and go online before getting your coffee.
11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )
12. You’re reading this and nodding and laughing.
13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.
14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.
15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasnt a #9 on this list.

How many of these are you?

I Love Jesus, But I Drink a Little - Funny Video

February 4th, 2009

This is a must watch video from the Ellen DeGeneres show. I am by no means an Ellen fan but for some reason this video caught my attention. I’m glad it did because a good laugh in the morning is good for everyone.

Ellen is shown here doing a telephone interview with an 80-something year old lady from Austin, TX. I cried in two places during the interview because I was laughing so hard. Watch and let me know what you think.

A Quote from a Good Guy - Tiger Woods

January 23rd, 2009

In an interview with ESPN, Tiger said, “I view my life in a way I’ll explain it to you, OK?” he told his small audience in Florida.

“The greatest thing about tomorrow is, I will be better than I am today. And that’s how I look at my life.

I will be better as a golfer, I will be better as a person, I will be better as a father, I will be a better husband, I will be better as a friend.

That’s the beauty of tomorrow. There is no such thing as a setback. The lessons I learn today I will apply tomorrow, and I will be better.”

Tag, I am it. Ugh!

January 6th, 2009

Brandon Savage tagged me with writing seven little-known things about myself and then tagging seven other people to do the same. So here goes …

  1. I took 3 years of Latin in high school because I had dreams of going to medical school.
  2. The name of my company, JASE, is an acronym from the initials of my two daughters: “Jennifer Annette” and “Sydni Elizabeth”.
  3. My first (real) job was during the summer at a landscaping company when I was 15. I got fired half-way through the summer because they found out I wasn’t old enough to work. My first (not real) job was delivering newspapers when I was 14.
  4. I quit band near the end of my 6th grade school year just before the spring concert because the concert was on the same night as one of my little league baseball games. Yes, my Dad let me decide! :) Thanks Pop.
  5. I played baseball in college. And for a few years made money playing slow-pitch softball.
  6. I’m an Eric Clapton F*R*E*A*K! Clapton. Cream. Derek and the Dominos. John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. Yardbirds. Blind Faith. Plastic Ono Band. Delaney, Bonnie & Friends. If it’s Clapton, I can’t get enough.
  7. My Dad passed away in 1999 after battling cancer. He is my idol. To most people that know me, that’s not a surprise. But it’s worth mentioning because too many children don’t have role models in their home. I did when I was young. And I’m proud of that fact.

And now, here are the seven people that I tag to do the same.

  1. Nicole Blum - blog - twitter - JASEzone
  2. Keith Ainsley - blog - twitter - JASEzone
  3. Michelle Rogerson - blog - twitter
  4. Nick Webb - blog - twitter - JASEzone
  5. Rick Whittington - blog - twitter
  6. Michael Tefft - blog - twitter
  7. Guy Kemp - blog - twitter

Here are the rules:

  • Link your original tagger, and list these rules on your blog.
  • Share seven facts about yourself in the post - some random, some weird.
  • Tag seven people at the end of your post by leaving their names and the links to their blogs.
  • Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs and/or Twitter and/or JASEzone.

Time for some fun!

Dealing with the (fake) Expert

December 29th, 2008

Have you ever caught yourself in a conversation with someone that just absolutely has no idea what they’re talking about? And you’re too nice to call them on it.

Have you ever read something that’s been published by a person representing a group that includes you and you can see through the smoke screen of lack-of-knowledge of the topic? And you’re thinking through the whole reading, “I sure hope no one else reads this bunk.”

What an uncomfortable situation!

If you do not know technology, do not talk about it as an expert.
If you do not know sports, do not talk about it as an expert.
If you do not know politics, do not talk about it as an expert. Wait, that one doesn’t count. :)

Famous Last Words: I was too busy

December 4th, 2008

Advertising Week ConferenceThis picture, taken from an AdRANTs article, brings to mind a few funny, and true, points not the least of which is to not neglect what got you where you are now.

No matter what your profession of choice, at some point in your career you were a sponge. You would spend countless hours researching, learning from others, and soaking up every little morsel of information and experience you could find.

Don’t let that stop. The ability to continuously absorb and process more information is one the fascinations of the human brain that we shouldn’t abandon.

Feed your mind. Study. Research. Watch others. Continue your intellectual and professional growth at all costs. Don’t fall behind because the results could be ruinous for your career.

Food Network Goes Mobile

December 2nd, 2008

Food NetworkOh my. Nicole is going to freak when she reads this! :)

The Food Network has launched a mobile version of their website custom tailored for smartphones such as BlackBerry and iPhone.

The new site offers visitors seasonal recipes, holiday recipes and videos for mobile viewing. Theres also a search box that allows search for specific recipes.

Can you imagine bumping in to someone on the floor at Harris Teeter because instead of looking where they’re going they are searching the Food Network on their smartphone for a special Bolognese sauce for a dinner party this weekend?!

Test it. Try it out - mobile.foodnetwork.com. Someone at home will thank you for not forgetting the stone-ground mustard.

Marketing During a Recession - Should we? At what rate?

November 26th, 2008

During these days of tight economic times a lot of us that are decision-makers for our respective companies are thinking hard about the details of our marketing initiatives. How should we market? Should we market? How should we spend? And at what rate should we spend?

JASE published an article on our company blog a few months ago that references thoughts from the Harvard Business Review. It’s worth the read over the long holiday weekend.

Facebook + Twitter = Ain’t Happenin’

I twittered this earlier today: I’ll give you $500M of my stock for your product that’s not worth that. But wait, neither is my stock. Who does that sound like?

I’ll give you one guess who it was. That’s right. This was the Facebook executives’ offer to the Twitter executives about a potential buy out. Good for Twitter for rejecting that silly offer.

Do we love our customers enough to use social media?

November 23rd, 2008

In this age of sprouting social media, social networks and easy-to-use social communities, are we really practicing what we preach? Do we use social media to communicate and even more importantly to interact with our customers?

We should. Now, more than ever before, we have the tools to increase bi-directional and multi-threaded interaction with our closest and also the most distant customers. We should be thinking of new ways everyday via social media to let our customers know they can rely on us to deliver on our brand promise to them.

It’s taken me a good year or so to find a replacement for the A. Fuente OpusX as a favorite since its availability is very scarce. But after attending Emerson’s CAO event this past week I think I’ve found it.

Yes it is happenstance that I am a huge Sopranos fan. And yes it is happenstance that this is James Gandolfini’s personal choice also. But if he doesn’t mind copying me then I’m good with it. :)

The CAO Sopranos is a smooth, solid smoke. You should try it.
